Sustainable Fifteen Cornwall!
Fifteen Cornwall is committed to protecting the environment. Every aspect of the restaurant has been designed to minimise environmental impact:
The Recycle Bubble
We aim to recycle as much as possible and in doing so reduce the waste we produce that goes to landfill sites to an absolute minimum – in fact, our research has shown that almost all the waste generated on the beach and at Fifteen Cornwall can be recycled. By making recycling fun, our amazing Recycle Bubble scheme is a great way to encourage visitors to Fifteen Cornwall and the beach to recycle all the waste they generate while they are here. Over twenty recycling bins are situated around the bay and we use a funky utility vehicle to transport the waste from both the restaurant and the bins to a special separation centre for recycling.
Lighting
The lighting system for the restaurant uses LED and low energy lamps which use around 80% less energy than standard halogen and filament fittings.
Heating
Natural ventilation, high levels of insulation (which reduces heat loss in winter and prevents heat gain in summer), solar reflective glass in the doors and heat recovery systems to recycle heat all reduce the need for traditional, inefficient heating or cooling systems.
Water
Rain water will be used to flush the Fifteen Cornwall loos, saving hundreds of litres of water per year.
Food Miles
Fifteen Cornwall’s commitment to local sourcing for ingredients (at least 80% off all produce used will be from Cornwall) means that the food served in the restaurant will have traveled very few miles in its journey to the plate. This cuts down on the energy used for transportation and, of course, reduces the greenhouse gas emissions caused by long distance transportation.
Using all of the technology listed above, Fifteen Cornwall will significantly reduce the amount of waste and the amount of carbon dioxide it produces, making this one of the most environmentally sustainable restaurants you’ll ever eat at!
