It’s hard to believe that Cohort 11 are nearing the end of their time with us and will soon be graduating from the programme. Last week was Apprentice Week, a very special occasion for them, as they are given the opportunity to take over the Fifteen Cornwall kitchen. In charge of running their own sections, they run service under the watchful eye of Karl Jones our training and development chef.
Apprentice Week – Cohort 11
On Wednesday the friends and families of the apprentices were invited to come in for lunch, taking a front row seat near the pass so they could watch the students in action. It’s an emotional time for everyone as they are able to see the progress the apprentices have made this year, not only in the kitchen but also in their personal development.
We also invited some of our suppliers and local chefs to join us for lunch on Thursday. With the responsibility of cooking for all our lovely customers along with a table of VIP guests, it was a great opportunity to put the apprentices through their paces and see how they work under pressure.
The apprentices are getting ready to go on their placements at other restaurants and this week is a good test for them, to see how prepared they are to go it alone. The placements last for four weeks and over the years, we are lucky to have built relationships with some great restaurants both locally and further afield. The students are all really looking forward to testing their new skills elsewhere and these placements provide a key stage in the path of their future careers.
