Christmas Wine Perfection
This is our new Head Sommelier Elly’s idea of Christmas wine perfection. An evolution of wines to take you through the most wonderful of holidays with a journey through many places in the world of wine. Carefully selected for you to enjoy on the main event and introduce you to some of our bottled friends with whom we are particularly fond.
Fifteen Prosecco: Made by Ca Morlin this is a Prossecco superior of which as of 2015 will be certified 100% organic. It has a wonderfully elegant mousse with floral, apple and supple honey notes this is the perfect wine to start any celebration.
Wild White: This wine is made by a great friend of our Mark Heller the ‘Cornish man in Bordeaux’ this is a Sauvignon Blanc from the Cotes de Duras in France. Its fresh limy acidity hints of tropical fruit and just the hint of vanilla make this a perfect wine for an aperitif, smoked salmon or the classic avocado and prawns.
Allegrini Valpolicella: A fantastic example from an area of Italy which has so much to offer. Clean bright redcurrant with a little squeeze of red cherry make this just a wonderful food wine. We feature this wine on our wine packages with carpaccio’s, salamis, and autumnal risottos. Anything with a little richness is set of beautifully with this bright fresh wine which cleanses the palate with great finesse.
Belisario Verdicchio di Matelica ‘Vigneti Lugarara’: The small DOC that is ‘Di Matelica’ produces light refreshing wines with wonderful depth. This is a prime example of this delightful grape and region. A delicate hint of almonds leads to great mineral undertone with great body. This white is exceedingly versatile with enough oomph to go with the main meal of Turkey and the trimmings. But light enough to be good with Boxing Day picks.
Selvapiana ‘Bucerchiale’, Chianti Rufina Riserva: We mentioned the main event and this wine encapsulates this with fantastic flair. A vineyard and wine that have a great affinity with us here at fifteen. This is one of our favourite wines, a heady number with spicy notes and vibrant acidity, it has finesse and depth all at once, silky tannins and food friendly acidity. Have this with your bird but great with cheeses as well.
Fairview Sweet red: For the final installment this port style wine from Paarl in South Africa with blackberry fruit and a smoky finish this is a great alternative to a Christmas classic. This wine is good with chocolate and berries, cheeses and biscuits and even Christmas pudding.
