Last week our Cohort 13 Apprentices along with some of our bar and front of house team accompanied by Training and Development Chef Karl and Welfare Officer Charlotte, were lucky to be invited for an exclusive guided tour around award-winning cider makers Cornish Orchards.
As well as attending college once a week and working shifts in the Fifteen Cornwall kitchen, each month the apprentices visit one of our suppliers to gain a wider understanding of the produce journey before it arrives at the kitchen door.
Founded in 1992 by self-taught cider maker Andy Atkinson, Cornish Orchards is sat on 140 acres of beautiful countryside in South East Cornwall. Guided by general manager Patrick and head cider maker Chris, we visited two of the orchards where the team got to taste some cider apples, learning about the different varieties of apples and how they get used in different juice and cider blends. Each part of the process takes place on the farm using traditional practices and all organic produce.
