We recently celebrated the graduation of our tenth cohort of apprentice chefs – with 11 graduating on 16 May 2016 as fully qualified chefs.
Huge congrats to our 2016 Graduates
This comes after an initial four months of study at Cornwall College, a year’s hands-on experience in the Fifteen Cornwall kitchen, sourcing trips, off site specialised training, then further work placements in other professional kitchens around the UK.
Jamie Oliver spent time with the graduates during the year, and also during his visit with us on May 16.
He said: “It’s hard to believe that it’s already been 10 years since I came down to Watergate Bay and started the Fifteen Cornwall restaurant and Apprentice Programme. It’s been one hell of a ride, but it absolutely remains one of the things I’m most proud of. Fifteen Cornwall has produced chefs and chefs and more chefs, and you’re still knocking out incredible food day in, day out, year after year. Thank you to everyone in the Fifteen Cornwall team as well as all our wonderful friends and supporters who’ve helped us along the way.”
Keiran English, 19 from Newquay, was named Apprentice of the Year at the graduation ceremony which was hosted by Jamie’s mentor Gennaro Contaldo. Keiran said, “The programme has made me a lot more confident and taught me not to doubt myself as much; it’s made me actually want to come to work every day. To anyone thinking of applying to Fifteen, definitely do it, it changes you – just don’t give up!”
Matthew Thomson, our chief executive said: ”Our congratulations go to all 11 graduates. Their hard work and commitment has enabled us to give them the opportunity to transform their lives and launch lifetime careers in food. We wish them all the very best for successful futures. 2016 is a very special year for Fifteen Cornwall – marking ten years since we started out on this incredible journey. I would like to thank everyone who has been part of our story to date – staff, suppliers, apprentices and diners. Here’s to the next ten years!”
