Insights day for apprentices on the beach
During the summer months, whilst college is closed, our apprentices spend every Thursday with Welfare Manager Matt Thomas, doing the ‘Summer Programme’. Most years this normally consists of a bit of surfing, beach BBQ’s, team building days, and also normally an Insights training day.
Insights is a model that uses four colours to represent observable behavioural patterns which are measured by the Discovery evaluator; a 25 frame questionnaire of statements from 100 word pairs, which when completed, produces the Insights Discovery Profile. This profile decides which colour you are whether its Cool Blue, Fiery Red, Earth Green or Sunshine Yellow.
In the work place Insights helps the apprentices to see how different personality types have different ways of doing things, and how they can learn to interact with other people in a team. It is also valuable for learning about what’s really important to different people within a team and how other people behave differently and see things differently because of their preferences. They also learnt how these preferences and personalities can change when under pressure, which is inevitable when working in a busy environment like a kitchen.
The group came away with a better understanding of themselves and each other, and a better understanding of how to approach each other whilst also getting the best out of someone.
A BIG thanks to Tinderbox and Carol and Jason who delivered the day for our apprentices free of charge (and have done for the last 5 years!)
And thank you to Insights who provide the profiles for free too.
