It’s great, it’s green and it’s here- Fontodi’s new season olive oil!
Just before Christmas we received our first few cases of 2013 Fontodi Olive Oil. Each year when it arrives we are amazed by it’s vivid green colour and wonderful fresh, grassy flavours. Fontodi’s pepperiness is so intense that we are often asked if the oil has been infused with pepper or chili, but it’s peppery kick does not come from the addition of any flavourings, just naturally from the olives themselves.
The Fontodi estate, where the oil is produced is located in Panzano, in the heart of Tuscany and is lovingly run by the Manetti family. Giovanni Manetti and his family have been incredible supporters of Fifteen Cornwall’s Apprentice Programme and have regularly shown groups of our apprentices and other staff around their stunning property. Every olive that goes into Fontodi’s olive oil is grown organically at their own estate, where the olives are gently pressed on the same day they are harvested; preserving the amazing grassy aromatics that can be tasted in the oil.
We asked our Sous Chef Andy Chown and some our our guests what they thought of the new season oil and what they’d use it for:
Andy Chown said:
“It’s Peppery, vibrant, grassy and lush perfect for dressing grilled meats.”
The lovely ladies on Table Two described it as strong, really peppery and very fresh, not at all what they were expecting from an olive oil! They thought it would be good with a selection of other oils with bread to dip.
To taste Fontodi’s new season oil join us in the restaurant and try it drizzled over flame-grilled meats straight from the Josper or order a bottle with a beautiful ceramic pourer from our online shop- perfect for pepping up all those new year salads you’ll be eating!
