The Old Fashioned Cocktail Recipe

Rum fashioned

You can’t beat a classic cocktail, there’s a reason why these cocktails are still popular and have stood the test of time.   The ‘Old Fashioned’ cocktails work well all year, they are warming in the winter and refreshing in the summer months.

It’s reported that the word ‘cocktail’ first appeared in 1806, with a new style using more ingredients hitting the bars in the 1860-70′s, this is when the ‘old-fashioned’ became popular, with some drinkers preferring the old style drinks.

You can make an ‘Old Fashioned’ using your favourite spirit(s), whiskey, gin, tequila, brandy etc, on this occasion we’ve selected rum and whiskey.

This is a very easy to cocktail to recreate at home and wow your friends with!  Here’s our version of an Old Fashioned cocktail recipe for you.

Ingredients:

50ml Rittenhouse Rye Whiskey
10ml Crown of Pyrat XO Rum
1 brown sugar cube
Orange and lemon peel
Angostura bitter
Glass type : Old Fashioned

Garnish : Orange peel

Method:

Place a brown sugar cube with the angostura bitter into an old fashioned glass and allow the bitters to soak into the sugar cube.  Add the peel and gently muddle.  Add some ice and stir for about 5 mins, keep topping it up with ice.  Once happy with aromas and texture, crown it with Pyrat XO.

Garnish it with orange peel.  The easiest way to do this is with a potato peeler, trim the edges of the peel, then twirl it around a straw.

Enjoy!
