Oli’s Marathon Update
I’m Oli, the assistant restaurant manager here at Fifteen Cornwall. I’ve been here now for three amazing years and this year, have decided to run the New York marathon with a few of our friends from Fifteen London.
I’m hoping to raise as much as I can for the Cornwall Foundation of Promise, the charity behind our unique training programme which is now in it’s fifth year.
Being a born and bred Cornish boy, staying indoors has never really been an option with the county being an overgrown playground – surfing, cycling on and off road and of course, running…..I do it all!
The running’s been a more serious hobby after spending a year working in Australia before joining the team here at Fifteen. Last year, the guys from London, led by Exec Chef Andrew Parkinson travelled across the pond and managed to raise thousands for the Jamie Oliver Foundation. I want to do the same for this place. Now I won’t be wearing any silly costumes or running with a bucket, but I am training hard for a new personal best and I’d love to do it in the name of charity.
My training’s going well, and have taken part in a series of good races this year, winning the ‘Treggy 7’ (miles) 3 days ago. I’ve got about 12 or 13 marathons under my belt now, but they never get easier and I have to train even harder to improve my times. On average, I’m running between 50 and 75 miles a week with a few rides and surfs along the way. Fitting it all in with work is tough sometimes, but I’m hoping it’ll all be worth it come November 7 th when I hit the Big Apple.
I’m also taking part in the second Eden Half Marathon on the 10th October as a final preparation race before the big one (it’s also my birthday that day!!!). If you find yourself in the area, your support would be amazing…it could also be worth watching, as there’s a fair chance I’ll be kitted out in the traditional colours of Fifteen…PINK!!!
So, whatever you can afford to donate – whether it’s £1 or £100, it is all hugely appreciated and you’ll be doing your bit to help keep our fantastic training programme going, turning the lives around for so many young people in this amazing county.
Thank you for your support!
