Soundtrack to your Cornish Summer from Ben Hall of Live Music Connections
Running Live Music Connections, a music agency in Cornwall has always been a most rewarding experience for many reasons. Witnessing musicians and bands develop over the years and seeing friends and musical family grow and evolve really gives one a sense of pride. It’s good to know that these great artists are spreading beautiful music and positive vibes, which all stem at some point (even if subconsciously) from the surroundings of the glorious county that we live in.
Here are a handful of acts that have been flying the flag for the music scene here in Kernow:
Winter Mountain – The story behind Winter Mountain is that of a Hollywood blockbuster – Meeting whilst travelling on a train heading for Memphis and realising how well the pairs voices complimented one another, the journey continued in the most unlikely fashion. – Local St Agnes lad, Joe Francis and Martyn Smith from Donegal, Ireland are now well on their way to success already with airplay on BBC Radio 2 and signed to Charcoal records. – The freshly released EP – ‘Find, follow’ is layered with incredible harmonies, soulful heartfelt ballads and more upbeat country vibes. Look out for their new Album coming out at the end of August.
Neil Halstead – Spending half the year touring the world and often catering for his loyal fan base out in the USA where his L.A based label – Brushfire Records operates from, Neil is more often seen surfing many of the various ocean board riding crafts he’s treasured over the years here in Cornwall than gigging locally, although when he does it is definitely worth grabbing a ticket straight away.
With several solo albums available, each with their own charming and soul soothing acoustic vibes, his tunes are a must hear. .
Also found paddling out at many of the surf spots in and around Newquay, local singer/songwriter, Ruarri Joseph is well worth a listen – After several critically acclaimed albums, Ruarri’s newest record – ‘Brother’ is a heart warming collection of songs that really reflect a touching insight into a deep and emotional story of both loss and love. – Beautifully produced with soaring string sections and amazing catchy choruses full of optimism. You can’t help drift away to a peaceful mind space – His video collaboration with local artist Tony Plant is also well worth a watch.
Albert Jones – Having played guitar in various bands around Devon and Cornwall for a large part of his life, Al has recently focussed all his energy into his own song writing and produced an EP of the highest calibre – Entitled ‘How lost are we’ available here. Released on the 30th of June, the record soars between full production pop tunes and weaves itself dynamically into more acoustic numbers such as ‘in the water’ .
