Tiptoe Thursday Tipple- Louis Roederer, Brut Premier, NV
Another week, another Thursday and another chance to point those toes and see that first glimpse of the weekend; off not too far in the distance (especially at this hour). I have been away in Scotland for a very long weekend, so thought I’d better celebrate being back in the county with a glass of bubbles.
I sat at our beautiful new bar and enjoyed an early evening sip of Louis Roederer’s Brut Premier as the sun went down (stupidly I forgot to take a picture at this point as I was too busy enjoying the moment, so you will all have to use your imagination to picture the scene. If you have seen a ‘Fifteen sunset’, it shouldn’t be too hard to recall the beautiful red sky disappearing behind the horizon).
Best know for their ‘Cristal’, Roederer was founded in Reims in 1776 and, unusually for a Champagne house, set about acquiring the best parcels of land on which to grow their own grapes. Growing the majority of their own grapes rather than buying them in mean Roederer can ensure first-hand that the grapes that go into making their Champagne are of the highest quality.
The ‘Brut Premier’ is a blend of all three Champagne grapes; Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. It has a wonderful balance of fruit and savoury toastiness with a refreshing crisp finish. I am looking forward to beginning a few more evenings with a glass of Roederer, and the view of a Fifteen sunset over the bay. Bring on the Summer!
