Fifteen Cornwall announces Winter Fayre line up

Later this month, Fifteen Cornwall’s Winter Fayre will put a new generation of Cornwall’s chefs centre stage.

The free to attend event, which is sponsored by Great Western Railway, takes place on Saturday 28 November from 9.30am to 3.30pm in the Extreme Academy car park at Watergate Bay, and will include chef demos, food producer stalls and children’s entertainment.

Demos will start from 10.30am and the line up includes:

–  Elsie Pinniger of Gilmore’s Newquay with sommelier Debbie Warner.

–  Rick Toogood and Rob Brinham from Prawn on the Lawn, Padstow.

–  Jack Bristow from Fifteen Cornwall with Ross Geach of Padstow Kitchen Garden.

–  Elly Owen, sommelier from Fifteen Cornwall, with Trevibban Mill Vineyard & Orchards talking wine.

As well as demos to watch, the event offers visitors the chance to meet some of Cornwall’s fantastic suppliers and producers, and to stock up on both fresh ingredients and foodie gifts for Christmas.

Matthew Thomson, chief executive of Fifteen Cornwall and Cornwall Food Foundation, said: “Many of our own fantastic suppliers will be at the Winter Fayre, and it is a great opportunity to chat to them and find out more about their produce and what’s in season.

“The event is to host over 20 different stalls, including seafood from Matthew Stevens, meat products from Primrose Herd, Cornish Duck Company and Deli Farm Charcuterie, and breads from Da Bara Bakery amongst them. The Eden Project will also be showcasing a selection of gifts suitable for Christmas.”

Gordon Lawrence, previously head sommelier at Fifteen Cornwall, is to offer festive wine matching advice at the Wooden Hand Beer & Wine stall. Southwestern Distillery will also be on hand sampling their Cornish pastis and Tarquin’s gin.

Cornish coffee roaster Origin Coffee are to sell a selection of hot drinks, and the Fifteen Cornwall apprentices are serving up a warm food offering throughout the day. Additional street food choices will also be available to purchase from late morning.

Fifteen Cornwall is managed by independent charity Cornwall Food Foundation. Its focus is on food skills, and this will be evident in the children’s activities and entertainment they are to host in the Kids Zone.

Opened in May 2006, Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen Cornwall uses the magic of food to empower and inspire young people in Cornwall to become professional chefs. Owned by the Cornwall Food Foundation, Fifteen Cornwall aims to recruit 15-20 young people aged 16-24 each year to become the chefs of the future.

Cornwall Food Foundation inspires people in Cornwall through food to make meaningful change in their lives. An independent, registered charity it is best known for managing the Fifteen Cornwall Apprentice Programme and Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen Cornwall restaurant.

The Foundation also runs a successful schools programme which sees over 1,000 school children visit the restaurant and actively engages with 30 schools through the schools healthy eating programme. The Foundation is currently working on some exciting new projects that involve vocational training opportunities and engaging communities through food-related activities that focus on health, education and employment.
