This week our chefs and trainees have been joined by some local work experience school students, here in the Fifteen Cornwall kitchen. With our Chef Training Programme at the beating heart of Fifteen Cornwall, our Training and Development Chef Karl Jones is dedicated to encouraging more young people into working in the food industry, and was eager to welcome these students into the kitchen to show them the ropes.
Work experience week
Ben and Dennis who are both in year 10 and attend Penair School and Roseland School, have been learning all things cooking during their work experience week. Both of them are aspiring chefs wanting to pursue chefing careers after they finish school. They thought this was a great way to get some hands on experience and see what it’s really like to work with a chef’s hat and apron on.
On their week so far, Ben and Dennis have learnt lots about food preparation, an incredibly important part of running a kitchen, as well as learning how to cook the fish and meat we serve in our restaurant.
Another important part, and we think one of the perks of the job, is experiencing and tasting new and exciting produce and ingredients. A highlight for Dennis was chocolate tasting with Marianna our pastry chef. And Ben enjoyed learning and tasting the locally sourced fish we serve on our menus.
We think Ben and Dennis have done a great job this week keeping up with our professional chefs and can see a bright future ahead for both of them in the kitchen.
